Rhino Turkey Tourney

I got signed up to play on the Jesuit women’s team in the Thanksgiving tournament.  This is a 7 v. 7 tournament that was organized by our varsity captain.  She asked me to join them as part of the 10 girl team.  I am excited.

Rhino Turkey Bowl

Jesuit formed a team for the 7 v 7 Rhino Turkey Bowl Lax Tourney.  It should have been named the stinky mud bowl.  We were playing in mud.  At least the games were on 25 minutes.  We had three games, lost all three.  I played pretty well in the first game (I didn’t fall in the mud).  We ended up losing because we had no goalie.  Well, we had someone playing goalie, but not a goalie.  At least she volunteered to play.

Game two was a little better, we played on an elevated field and it was very wet, less mud.  I had a few good shots and an assist on one of our goals.  Our high school coach showed up for the last game.   All told, there were 12 girls and we were able to mingle the JV with the varsity girls.  Next up is open field after school.

LAX NW

Last Sunday was my first session of “Pure Lacrosse” a conditioning class to hone my lacrosse skills.  OMG, it was hard.  We had to do all sorts of different muscle exercises that at the time were hard, but later on, I was so sore.  It wasn’t all conditioning, but rather skill work around the goal and defensive positioning.  Next Sunday I start the Indoor league.

Rhino League

I finished up the 6 weeks of the Fall league.  I missed last Sunday because of a cold and that it was raining.  This was homecoming weekend and the dance was kind of boring.  I was excited to get on the field today.  It was sunny and 50 and when the games were over, I thought I did pretty well, playing against upper class girls from around the state.  I have signed up to play indoor lacrosse beginning in late November.  That will be fun and can help to hone my skills for the Jesuit season.

Lacrosse League

concordia 002I really didn’t feel like going to Rhino today.  Yesterday I had a crosss country meet and it rained and rained and rained.  I am glad I did go though.  I thought I played pretty well and the coaches told me so.  I did get my hand checked though.  I just completed a 1 to 2 minute sequence where I made a few good checks and that is when I got my finger checked.  Ouch it hurt.

brenna Rhino imageThe Rhino lacrosee league for Portland area High School players is a lot of fun.  I seem to be a little rusty, but otherwise am learning a few tips and tricks.  My goal was to participate in the fall league and then “try-out” for the Select team that travels to the Sand-storm tourney in SoCal.

I learned that the trip is in January and it falls on the weekend before our 1st semester finals week.  There is no way I can be gone the whole weekend Thrusday-Sun and come home and expet to do well on my finals.  Bummer.  I really wanted to participate with my new friends.  Maybe next year.

The image to the left was taken from the Rhino website on October 9, 2009.  That is me on the left with the ball.

Rhino Lacrosse

We had a very good practice/league today.  About 40 girls from around the city came together and we were split into 4 teams for some scrimmage.  It was a lot of fun.  I thought I played pretty well, except for a couple of drops in the first game.  I hope the weather holds for the next 6 weeks.  I love playing in the sunshine.

I got signed up for the Rhino Lacrosse Fall League.  I will gt to play with an assortment of other high school girls from around Portland.  Last fall, I thought most came from Oregon City or the Lake Oswego area.  No wonder, it is real close for them.

This past Sunday was the first weekend and I was surprised that there were over 40 girls and some goalies.  Yeah!  The coaches knew me from last year when I was a freshman.  It was fun and the weather was nice for running around on a Sunday afternoon.

The season has been over for a month and am having lacrosse withdrawals. The other day I did receive notice from Coach Traci that she will have open field on Wednesday for scrimmages. Yeah.

B gound ballLast game of the season against Sherwood at home.  They showed up with on 10 players, so we had to play “down” to make it even.  I started a A-wing and scored the 3rd or 4th goal of the game.  Again, I only took 1 shot.  The coaches wanted us to “settle” so we spent most of the first half passing and led 8 – 2 at half.  With the sun out and in the eyes of the goalie, the second half was a little different.  Sherwood score 4 straight goals to make it 8 – 6 with 9 minutes to play.  We ended up winning 12 – 8 to finish the season on a mini-winning streak.
